Individual Therapy

Our mission is to provide effective evidence-based psychological interventions for anxious, depressed, traumatized and/or emotionally dysregulated adolescents and adults. We are trained and specialize in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Behavioral Activation (BA) for the treatment of depression and anxiety, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for the treatment of emotion dysregulation and self-harm, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy – Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. When working with adolescents, we ask that parents/caregivers meet with the individual provider along with their child for the initial session. During the first 1-3 sessions, the provider will gather information about the presenting problems, establish treatment goals, and orient the family and individual to therapy. Similarly, adults will meet with the individual provider for 1-3 sessions for an assessment and then meet to discuss treatment planning.

DBT Skills Training Group

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was designed by Marsha Linehan for individuals who have difficulty regulating their emotions and who use unhealthy coping mechanisms to manage their emotions. By participating in DBT, patients learn skills to effectively cope with intense negative emotions while also increasing self-acceptance and validation. Patients who participate in DBT skills training group are required to attend weekly individual therapy while participating in weekly DBT skills training group. We ask that all patients commit to completing each module that they sign up for in its entirety. There are a total of three modules for adults and 4 modules for adolescents. Each module takes approximately 12 weeks to complete. During that time, participants learn mindfulness as well as interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, or distress tolerance skills depending on the module. The adolescent group also includes a module on middle path skills that help with family communication and dilemmas. Caregivers of adolescents participating in DBT skills training are invited to participate in a caregiver workshop at the end of each module to review all relevant skills. Although DBT is an effective treatment for adolescents and adults with severe emotion dysregulation, it does require both a time and financial commitment. For that reason, we ask patients and families who are interested in this treatment to participate in an orientation session before initiating treatment.
